The bigger picture

By enabling women and girls to have equal access to education, health care, and decent occupation, we deliver benefits for the economy, society, and, in a bigger perspective, the whole of humanity.

The part that the Ukrainian women in Poland play in this war is unique. In their new homes, their job is to take care of children and elderly people. This work is unpaid. It is also women that are more frequently severely affected by the economic impact of the war, as their professional situation in the labor market is less stable.

Refugee women in new countries take informal, odd jobs without legalized employment, which puts them at greater risk of falling into poverty. Ukrainian women are also directly exposed to greater peril of violence against women, lack of access to such fundamental services as legal aid, childcare, and other facilities of critical importance, and loss of livelihood due to labor exclusion.

The objective is within women's grasp. All they need is a little help.
